Louis Cane's "Water Lilies" series, begun in the 1990s, demonstrates the evolution of this major artist of the Supports/Surfaces movement. Inspired by Claude Monet's famous Water Lilies, Cane reinterprets this iconic Impressionist motif through a contemporary and personal approach.

This series is distinguished by the use of innovative media such as embroidered canvas, plastic mesh, and fiberglass, allowing Cane to explore light, color, and texture in original ways. The works, often large in scale, feature fluid and vibrant compositions, where abstract forms evoke the surface of water and its changing reflections.

Through this series, Louis Cane pays homage to Monet while asserting his own artistic vision, blending abstraction, figuration, and the exploration of materials. His Water Lilies offer a reflection on visual perception and the poetry of nature, while placing contemporary art in a dialogue with the masters of the past.
